Brain and Behavior
The Study of the Brain
One of the most interesting things that stuck out to me in all of these readings was simply how the studying of the brain has truly advanced. After listening to a TED talk with Carl Schoonover, Here, the understanding of the brain has dramatically increased over all these years of studies. It is so wild to me that scientists from long ago knew the basics as the two eyes and optic nerve were at the front of the head and then simply could only look the outside of the brain, but now modern scientists are still learning things about the many functions of the brain, and they are more advanced than ever as they can analyze neurons all around the brain. Schoonover even said, "These modern pictures are very powerful and have incredible explanatory power."
Other Studies
The advancement of technology has greatly increased our knowledge of the brain. From thousands of years ago, humans only knew the basics, but today we continue to learn about the brain. We know that the average brain weighs around 3 pounds and contains billions of cells that coordinate to make up different lobes to provide different functions. And yet this brain is constantly changing by whatever we encounter on a daily basis and because of our constant thirst for new information.
"Learning is a very important part in the activity and growth of the brain."
The brain to me is simply amazing, I will never understand how something can be so small and intricate and yet be the most powerful thing we will ever encounter. We have made it so far in our understanding of the brain, but yet we are nowhere close to completely understanding it's true power. Being able to look over and study the different aspects of the brain was so interesting and will definitely be something I continue to look over as I continue to study psychology.

Three pounds! I had no idea! Also, its so easy to forget that the brain is constantly observing and analyzing every moment of every day. I also did a blog about better understanding the brain. Along with what you stated, I was surprised to discover that scientists aren't even close to completely understanding the power and intricacy of the brain. I'm interested to see the knew information about the brain that scientists will discover throughout my lifetime!
ReplyDeleteVery true Taryn! Brain is incredibly amazing!
DeleteBeautiful! The hyperlink to the Ted talk and sources on the bottom are all great! Good job!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Brandon, it is unreal how powerful our brain really is. I had no idea thats how much our brain weighed. In my blog I wrote about how powerful the brain can be in making decisions through a body that is paralyzed. The brain is absolutely incredible.
ReplyDeleteBrandon,
ReplyDeleteThe brain is such a fascinating and powerful part of our complex body. You did a great job on your post. It is unbelievable how far technology has advanced and what we can study now about the brain in detail. The images you posted of the brain demonstrates the difference in technology and how advanced it is now compared to many years ago. It was a great way to illustrate the advances in technology.
