Character Study

My Mom For this exercise about analyzing a personality, the first person to come to mind was my mom. There is no other personality that I could possibly know better than my mom's, simply because she has been by my side from day one. Since we had to analyze her personality throughout her entire life, I sat back to think about all the stories she has ever told me, and even made a phone call to her mom and sister to back up what I heard. Even with her sister joking around and having fun, I really got to understand what my mom was like in her childhood. She has always been a women of Christ, hardworking, and dedicated to whatever she has done. When she was young she always followed directions even without questioning them. My mom has always had the biggest heart and it was present in the fact that she loved to take care of and be around many animals including dogs and horses.  A big quality that showed, as I was told by her own mom, was that she was dedicated to every task she did....

Roger's Theory

Image
After reading and learning all about the different personalities and theory's that are available to determine these things, the one that stood out to me the most was Carl Roger's theory. Rogers' believed that healthy personality is constant with your self image. He talks about how human's have one basic motive, and that is the tendency to self actualize and to fulfill one's potential and achieve the highest level of human-beingness that we can. " The organism has one basic tendency and striving - to actualize, maintain, and enhance the experiencing organism ”  From studying over Roger's theory, I can agree with him on just about every level. I believe that a person's personality can be whatever ever they make it. I believe that everyone has a choice to make and the power to control their life styles and personalities. Yes, some people will argue about how bad things can occur and happen to people that they have no earthly control over, but I beli...

Nature Vs. Nurture

Image
The nature verses nurture debate is concerned about which particular aspects a child has and whether it is inherited or acquired. Nature is considered what is influenced by inheritance and other biological factors, while nurture is considered by the effect of external factors in someone's life. The debate was thought to have come to a conclusion, but with recent studies it turns out that almost everything has something to do with genetics. Examples: Intelligence Nature - People may believe ones capability to achieve greatness may come from the parent's and their level of intelligence. Nurture -  People believe the child's educational background and how the parents raised the child determines how intelligent the child is. Personality  Nature - When a child develops a personality that neither parent displays is considered when influences around the child affect the personality. Nurture - The child and the parent's would have similar personalities and w...

Perception

One thing that really stood out to me in this weeks lessons was perception. According to the dictionary, perception is defined as; 1) a result of perceiving 2) awareness of the elements of the environment through physical sensation. Perception  Perception is so fascinating to me, because for one every single one of us tend to see things differently no matter what it is, and in the world we live in today, lots of things try and mess with how we view things, even simple little works of art aren's always exactly how you perceive them to be. From the powerpoint, it says that perception illustrates how we perceive the whole picture compared to the individual parts, and that our minds bring order and form to stimuli by following certain rules for grouping. These different groupings consist of proximity, similarity, continuity, and closure. Examples  How many legs does the elephant have? Is the face of the box in the bottom left corner or the top right? Is the third p...

How fast your brain reacts to a stimuli.

For this project I decided to conduct the experiment on reaction with a volunteer. For this test, I used a standard 12 inch ruler, a table, and a friend as my volunteer, Jared A. The results from this test were very fascinating. The test went as followed: 1) I had Jared sit close to a table so that his hand would be hanging over on the edge. 2) I held the bottom of the ruler at the top of his hand and told him that as soon as he saw the ruler drop, to try and catch it. 3) If Jared was unable to catch the ruler, I marked the distance total as 80, to represent where it would have hit the floor. 3) This process was repeated 3 more times so that their would be 4 results total. 4) To vary the tests, the next 4 drops consisted of having Jared close his eyes, and listen for when I said go to try and catch the ruler. This test was again tested 4 times. 5) Another variable was tested. Jared again closed his eyes, but the signal for when I was dropping the ruler would be a tactile ...

Brain and Behavior

The Study of the Brain One of the most interesting things that stuck out to me in all of these readings was simply how the studying of the brain has truly advanced. After listening to a TED talk with Carl Schoonover,  Here , the understanding of the brain has dramatically increased over all these years of studies. It is so wild to me that scientists from long ago knew the basics as the two eyes and optic nerve were at the front of the head and then simply could only look the outside of the brain, but now modern scientists are still learning things about the many functions of the brain, and they are more advanced than ever as they can analyze neurons all around the brain. Schoonover even said, "These modern pictures are very powerful and have incredible explanatory power." Other Studies The advancement of technology has greatly increased our knowledge of the brain. From thousands of years ago, humans only knew the basics, but today we continue to learn about the br...
