Roger's Theory
After reading and learning all about the different personalities and theory's that are available to determine these things, the one that stood out to me the most was Carl Roger's theory. Rogers' believed that healthy personality is constant with your self image. He talks about how human's have one basic motive, and that is the tendency to self actualize and to fulfill one's potential and achieve the highest level of human-beingness that we can.
"The organism has one basic tendency and striving - to actualize, maintain, and enhance the experiencing organism”
From studying over Roger's theory, I can agree with him on just about every level. I believe that a person's personality can be whatever ever they make it. I believe that everyone has a choice to make and the power to control their life styles and personalities. Yes, some people will argue about how bad things can occur and happen to people that they have no earthly control over, but I believe that it returns back to the fact of having everyone having a choice to make what they want out of the situation. For me, whenever bad things happen in my life or thing occur that I don't always agree with, I always turn to my faith and stay strong in that aspect to get me through the situation. In Romans 5, it talks about ho pain and suffering only build strength and endurance that builds and helps one fight through the pain and become stronger in the end. That is simply my choice, following what Roger's states in his theory. That is one aspect of my personality that i have control over and tend to stick to.
For me life is what you make you, and that you define your own personalities and how you wake up each and every day with a choice on how you are going to make it. Yes, external factors can play a major role in what occurs throughout the day, but how one handles it, is a choice that comes from within them.

Brandon I can agree with you. I also agree with with Rodgers theory. From reading this I can tell that you actually read the topics from this chapter and that you are interested in what you are reading. I like reading your blogs because you take interest in this class. I look forward to continue reading your blogs.
ReplyDeleteHello Brandon, I wrote my blog very similar to yours. I can totally agree with all you had to say and i can tell along with Hayden that you are very interested in this topic and have a very strong opinion in what you believe.
ReplyDeleteBrandon,
ReplyDeleteI agree that we have a power to choose how we act and what actions we take but I also believe that each person is shaped by their life experiences. I feel that an individual is very likely to be influenced in either a positive or negative way by what they experience growing up. An example of this would be a child with an alcoholic parent. The child will either follow in their parents footsteps or decide to not even drink alcohol due to the risk of them becoming like their parent.
