OVERVIEW Week 1&2 Week one and two was basically the intro to this class and psychology itself, which was very interesting to me because I have never really been one to pay attention to psychology and the meaning behind it. It was all over the science of psychology, behavioral and mental functions, and the actual question of “why” for psychology. I enjoyed these two weeks because of the newness of the material and the true effect it the brain has on everyday activities. I believe that if you can truly understand your own brain and be able to function without distractions, you will have a huge advantage in everyday life. Week 3&4 My favorite weeks. In these weeks, the focus was on the brain, sensation, and perception. Some cool aspects that stood out to me were that the brain could never stop learning, various stimuli can cause different reaction times, and that the mind can play tricks on us because we try to go so fast and fill in false infor...

M7: Strengths Test

Image
For This assignment I decided to do the strength test and implement 3 new ways on how I could improve them. Many of my strengths at the top were equal, so I just used the top 3 it showed. Self Control:    1) The first way I tried to improve my self control was to simply look at the big picture. I felt like if I was able to look a the big picture, I would not rush things and overwhelm myself and skip the details. This was good for me because I knew that each little thing I did was going to be used in that big picture.    2) Next, i really just tried to relax. If I was able to slow things down and focus on one thing at a time, I believe I could control my emotions on not over do it. This really helped this week as i had big projects due and not a lot of time to do them, but by relaxing I was able to control my thoughts and get things down.    3) Lastly, I made sure I got plenty of sleep. Self control is huge and I believe people are weakest when they are...

M6 #CounselorsHelp

#CounselorsHelp With this project of counselor appreciation, it really opened my eyes about counselors. I have never truly used one, but my friends acknowledged my tweet and we were able to have some quality conversations about counselors. I never truly realized the affect counselors have on people. My favorite story that Heard was from one of my friend's named Jamie. She had a counselor back in high school, Mrs. K, who was simply a best friend for her. It was so cool to see how close they got and just the impact Mrs. K had on Jamie's life. She truly showed that she was there for Jamie no matter what, and that is something I feel like most people tend to overlook about counselors. I decided to use twitter for my social media platform so that it could be simple. I didn't want to force anyone to open up completely in front of the world, but allow a conversation to occur in real life. Several of my friends did acknowledge the tweet and we had some great conversations. Like...

M5 "Whats your Story"

#IDefineMe If I had to define myself with one word, that word would be "lover." Throughout my life, my story has been defined by so many things. I have been involved in so many different groups and been a part of so many teams, they have all been so different. One thing about this is that I have been surrounded with so many different people as well. They have all been of different races, cultures and backgrounds, one thing that our world today is struggling with. The world tends to divide us in every possible way, no matter what we do. But I have learned to defy those standards and be a lover. In my mind I don't see different cultures or backgrounds, but one race: human. We were all created in the image of God with our own special traits that are like no one else in the entire world. Seeing things this way has opened up so many more doors and friendships for me, that wouldn't have been possible if I did not see it that way. My story has made my life so much better a...

Memory Reflection Blog

Memory related disorders and forgetting The memory related disorder that stood out to me in this weeks assignment was the one that you always here about, and the one that affects most people, Alzheimers. I have heard so many stories from people I am close to being affected by this disease because someone they know or love has the terrible disease. The phenomenon behind this disease is that the brain simply attacks itself. The cells, nerves, and transmitters are attacked and the brain eventually shrinks and major gaps are formed. I personally learned from this, that there is really no cure yet. It's such a horrible thing, but one can not do anything about it. As the people I know and love continue to age, if someone happens to inherit this disease, I will be better prepared on what to do and expect from the disease.  Improving Memory- Tests & Strategies The strategy that stood out most to me was talked about in the first  video . The strategy was bundling, where ...

M4: Task 2 on False Memory and Serial-Positioning Effect-Memory Chapter

Image
Test: Step-by-Step For this task I was able to sit them down in a quiet environment where they could be focused and prepared for the test. Prior to the test I had each individual grab a note card and pencil and be ready for the test. First I told them to listen to the list of words I was about to read, and then once I was done, to write down as many as they could remember. This was the list I read:  thread, pin, eye, injection ,syringe, sewing, sharp, point, hurt, knitting, prick, thimble, haystack, pain These are their lists: Once they had written down as many of the words as they could remember, I told them to listen to a second list and again, remember as many words as possible. This is the second list I read:   Bed, Drowse,  Awake, Nurse,  Tired, Sick,  Dream, Lawyer,  Wake, Medicine,  Snooze, Health,  Snore,  Rest, Dentist,  Blanket, Physician,  Doze, Patient,  Slumber, Stethoscope,  Nap, Curse,  ...

Learning

For this week's assignment, the topic was learning. One of the aspects of learning that stood out to me the most was acquisition. Acquisition, according to the book, is the point in the learning process at which the neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus because it causes the conditioned response. The example used in the text was that of a dog. The two stimuli were a bell and food. And the dog was stimulated to the food but had nothing to associate the bell with at first. But the bell was eventually rung when food was available and the dog ended up learning that whenever the bell would ring, food was available. So the dog as conditioned to the point that every time the bell rang the stimulus for food would respond for the dog. Research of Learning  While reading all about learning this week I do decided to a little more research about what learning really is. learning is not something that begins at a certain time or just happens when you start going to school. Learnin...
